Mother Charged After Missing Son Found
Authorities have charged a mother, who previously sought public help when her 10-year-old son disappeared, after his body was discovered in a shallow grave.
Jaden Spicer’s remains were located on Tuesday afternoon in a wooded area in Breslit County, Kentucky, as reported by local police.
Felicia Gross, the 33-year-old mother of Jaden, has been charged with several offenses, including manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and making false reports. This information was shared by Trooper Matt Gayhart during a press briefing.
Prior to the tragic discovery, Gross had given handwritten appeals to the media, asking for help in locating her son. Investigators now believe these messages were written after she already knew the fate of Jaden.
In her emotional notes, she expressed, “We love Jaden. If anyone sees him, I want him to be safe at home,” pleading for people to contact the Jackson Police Department.
The search began after Gross reported that Jaden had gone to bed on the night of August 5, but he was missing the following morning. The area around his home was thoroughly searched, but it wasn’t until the police received new leads that they found Jaden’s body on Monday night.
His remains were sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for further analysis, as officials continue their investigation. Gayhart mentioned that there hasn’t been any new information released at this time. It’s noteworthy that Gross has a prior conviction for endangering minors and is currently being held at the Kentucky River Regional Prison.
