MS NOW Admits to Using AI-Enhanced Images in Reporting Alex Preti’s Death

On Monday, MS NOW acknowledged that it used AI-enhanced images while covering the death of Alex Preti and made edits to its “Deadline: White House” segment.

Preti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse from Minneapolis, was shot dead by U.S. Border Patrol agents during an immigration raid last Saturday. Nicole Wallace, the host of MS NOW, addressed the mounting tensions between city residents and federal immigration officials, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“Minneapolis residents were pushed to their limits last weekend when ICE agents killed a nonviolent bystander,” Wallace stated. “In this situation, it involved Alex Preti, an ICU nurse who dedicated his life to caring for veterans. Donald Trump and his administration are essentially telling us not to believe what we see and hear.”

Trump Calls Incident ‘ABC Fake News’

He added, “Fortunately, many Americans are choosing to reject the falsehoods from Donald Trump and his administration, along with the smear tactics that aim to justify the state-sanctioned violence happening in our cities.”

During her report, viewers saw an AI-modified photo of Preti in his nurse’s scrubs. However, it soon became apparent that this image did not match the original, which had been provided by the Service Employees International Union, of which Preti was a member.

Ana Navarro Describes Preti as the ‘Perfect Person’

Notable criticism has surfaced, including from podcast host Joe Rogan, who commented on the altered images during a recent episode. “They made him look more appealing, maybe to evoke more sympathy for him being shot. But doesn’t that imply that less attractive people are less valuable?” Rogan joked.

Following the backlash, MS NOW has since re-edited and removed the segment. An editor’s note later confirmed the use of “AI-enhanced images” of Preti.

Furthermore, MS NOW has since replaced the thumbnail for this video, acknowledging that the previous one featured an AI-altered image of Alex Preti.
