Discussion on Minnesota’s Feeding Our Future Fraud Scheme
During a recent conversation on MS NOW’s “The Weekend,” co-host Jackie Alemany raised questions about the Minnesota Feeding Our Future fraud case, suggesting it might be “isolated.” She pointed out that former President Donald Trump tends to generalize incidents like this one to make broader claims about particular communities.
“Historically, he has taken isolated examples to justify his sweeping language, which feels like outright bigotry,” Alemany stated while questioning Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison about the investigation into “Food for the Future,” which has faced scrutiny. She urged him to clarify the case, emphasizing how unique it truly is and how it relates to attacks on the Somali community in Minnesota.
The Feeding Our Future scheme has emerged as one of the largest COVID-19 fraud cases in the state, with allegations that the nonprofit stole hundreds of millions of dollars from federal child nutrition programs meant to aid during the pandemic.
As of November 2025, over 75 individuals have been charged, primarily from Minnesota’s Somali diaspora, although, interestingly, the key architect of the scheme remains uncharged.
Ellison remarked to MS NOW that the U.S. Attorney’s Office was primarily responsible for prosecuting the case. “My office played a supporting role by providing evidence, but I want to commend the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their diligent work in charging over 78 people,” he noted.
He added, “It’s critical that we protect public funds and pursue fraud without leaning into political biases. We need to work together on this.” Ellison also called Trump “inconsistent” in his approach to these issues.
Recently, a report by the New York Times highlighted how fraud has taken root within segments of Minnesota’s Somali community, pointing out individuals profiting significantly by setting up fake companies to bill state agencies for non-existent services.
Conservative media has responded critically to Alemany’s suggestions, indicating that fraud in this context isn’t just an isolated issue but rather something more widespread. In a contrasting sentiment, Trump has been vocal in his disdain for the Somali community, even labeling it as “trash” during a recent cabinet meeting.
The ongoing discourse emphasizes tensions surrounding this investigation, with various perspectives on community integrity and the influence of political narratives at play.
