Ms. Rachel Advocates for Reparations on Social Media
Children’s YouTube and Netflix personality Ms. Rachel, known as Rachel Acaso, has recently added her voice to the conversation about reparations for slavery and Jim Crow laws. She shared her stance with her more than 5 million followers in an Instagram post, reinforcing her alignment with various leftist causes.
In her post, she referenced a 2014 essay by Ta-Nehisi Coates discussing the necessity to “consider” the historical context of America’s slavery issue. The quote highlighted the staggering timeline: “250 years of slavery. 90 years of Jim Crow. 60 years of segregation but equality. 35 years of racist housing policies. America will never be whole until we consider our growing moral debt.”
Coates is a prominent author and journalist known for his perspective that America’s prosperity has roots in exploitation and that the nation must confront its historical wrongs rather than merely provide financial compensation.
Interestingly, it seems neither Coates nor Ms. Rachel acknowledges that both slavery and Jim Crow laws were largely products of the Democratic Party. As noted by Jerome Hudson from Breitbart News, “The Democratic Party is the party of slavery. The party of slavery has now transformed into the party advocating for reparations.”
Hudson supported this assertion with a reference from former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., who remarked that historically, the Democratic Party aligns with the Confederacy, likening its flag to that of the Confederate flag itself. He emphasized that many southern segregationists identified as Democrats and that the party’s long history heavily intersects with slavery.
This isn’t Rachel’s first public exploration of leftist ideals. Just last month, she prompted her followers to support Denver Assemblymember Melat Quiros, who controversially stated that the 9/11 attacks were “inevitable.” Additionally, she has defended Hamas’ viewpoints against Israel, often aligning herself with notable figures in the anti-Israel narrative.
