Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced that she will file a motion to resign against House Speaker Mike Johnson next week.

She held a press conference with U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie outside the U.S. Capitol to make the announcement.

“I think all members need to vote and let the chips fall where they need to, so next week I’ll be introducing a motion for this resignation,” Greene said.

Fox News reported:

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia announced Wednesday that she plans to file a motion to resign against House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Greene attended a press conference in front of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, along with U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.). Both men said they would file a motion next week, criticizing Johnson after he received support from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).

Democrats promised to save Mike Johnson.

The Hill reported:

But it’s also a move almost certain to fail, after Democratic leaders said they would vote to protect the speaker from a coup attempt.

A vote on the motion to rescind the resolution, which Greene filed against Johnson more than a month ago, would force Congress to act on the bill within two legislative days.

The announcement, made in front of a crowd of reporters just outside Parliament House, came after Greene had spent weeks attacking Johnson’s leadership style and threatening to remove him from power. However, she refused to take enforcement action on the motion to resign, sparking speculation that Greene was doing so. After Mr. Johnson received glowing reviews from former President Trump, he withdrew from the effort.
