Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) on Sunday dismissed Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent surge in poll ratings as a “honeymoon period.”
In an interview with Chris Styrewalt on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday,” Mullin denied the claim that Democrats are currently leading in the presidential race.
“No, absolutely not. This is a bit of a newlywed situation with Ms. Harris,” Mullin said. “She hasn’t answered any questions from the media yet. She hasn’t given any interviews. She’s keeping her history secret. At some point she’s going to have to answer those questions.”
Recent polls have shown Harris trailing Trump in which candidate “cares about people like you.” Asked if it was fair to say Trump is “more focused on personal attacks on his rivals than on reconnecting with persuadable voters,” Mullin said, “I don’t think so.”
“What you’re seeing is President Trump continuing to go out and get his message out there and defend himself when he’s attacked and when people turn against him, as he has done in the past.”
The Hill & Decision Desk national polling averages show Trump and Harris neck and neck, with Trump averaging 47.6 percent support and Harris averaging 47.2 percent support.
