Security Operations Praised at World Cup

The Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, expressed his admiration for the impressive security measures in place during the World Cup, highlighting the collaboration between federal and local law enforcement as “extraordinary.”

In a chat with a Fox News correspondent, Mullin shared that he won’t rest easy until July 20, right after the finals. Speaking from Seattle Stadium, he mentioned that it’s encouraging to see security protocols working well in cities like Seattle and Los Angeles, hoping those in charge will take notes for the future.

Mullin noted that, while there may be disagreements on immigration and other topics, everyone is on the same page when it comes to ensuring the safety of fans at events across the country. He seemed hopeful that continued partnerships among state, federal, and local agencies will enhance security efforts.

With many fans visiting the U.S. for the first time, there is a mix of expectations, especially given past media coverage of the Trump administration. Contrary to fears of a militarized presence, the atmosphere has been quite different.

Mullin elaborated on the efforts that often go unnoticed, indicating that it’s a conscious decision to keep many operations under wraps. “We really want people to enjoy themselves,” he said. “Nobody wants to feel like they’re in a war zone, yet we want them to understand we are dedicated to safety. It’s quite remarkable to see the collective effort of law enforcement at all levels.”

He also underscored the crucial role fans play in making this World Cup perhaps one of the finest experiences to date. “They’re incredibly passionate about America,” he remarked. His wife, he added, has been captivated by the influx of videos showcasing the fans on social media, emphasizing the pride many are feeling. He mentioned the beauty of the country from coast to coast and the warmth of its people, celebrating a sense of national pride tied to a broader vision.

Mullin confessed that soccer hadn’t been his primary interest until now, but he’s really come to appreciate the sport along with the enjoyment surrounding it—while tirelessly working to maintain safety. He looked forward to some well-earned rest come July 20.
