Texas Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase
Texas law enforcement apprehended a Houston-area man following a high-speed chase that started in the border town of Far. The individual, 35-year-old Margarito Alcantal, is being sought by officials regarding a murder case from 2021.
On Wednesday, investigators from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Texas Public Safety Criminal Investigation Bureau and Highway Patrol Troopers, located a vehicle linked to Alcantal in Far, near the Texas-Mexico border. According to law enforcement sources, Alcantal fled the scene rapidly after authorities attempted to stop him. He was ultimately arrested along with a three-year-old child following a crash that involved colliding with several Texas Highway Patrol vehicles and stone barriers.
The chase involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Border Patrol, which assisted officers engaged in the pursuit. The chase ended near Edinburg, Texas, when Alcantal crashed a silver GMC pickup truck into a stone fence on Eldora Road.
Law enforcement sources reported that Alcantal sustained minor injuries to his head and face. Fortunately, the three-year-old was found unharmed and was subsequently turned over to family members by local authorities.
A photo obtained by sources shows a bleeding Alcantal being examined by a first responder. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Alcantal is facing charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, evading arrest, and child endangerment, in addition to the existing charges related to the 2021 murder case.
As reported, Alcantal is one of four family members implicated in the murder of 29-year-old Eddie Clark in May 2021. According to authorities, the family mistakenly pursued Clark’s vehicle, believing it to be involved in vandalism against their property. Clark was shot and killed after attempting to escape from the family that was trying to block his car.
