Murder victim's brother criticizes Lightfoot for her 'fabricated' comments about crime in Chicago

Criticism of Chicago Mayor by Murder Victim’s Brother

The brother of a murder victim has faced sharp criticism from Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot for claiming that the city’s crime crisis is “manufactured.” In a recent discussion on CNN’s “arena,” Lightfoot suggested that former President Donald Trump could use Chicago’s crime issues to justify deploying the National Guard, as he had previously threatened.

Lightfoot remarked, “This isn’t really about violent crimes; it’s more about something else entirely. I don’t think this so-called manufactured crisis and Trump’s efforts to incite fear in Chicagoans should be seen as an exercise of proper authority.” She insisted that the situation is not merely about violence.

Meanwhile, recent months have seen Trump threatening to send in the National Guard and calling for federal action to address crimes in urban areas like Chicago. At a recent event, he claimed, “We’re going to save Chicago from horrifying crime.”

Christian Beamon, brother of Fox News political analyst Jean No Caldwell, was fatally shot on June 24, 2022, in a Chicago incident that police assert was not meant for him. Caldwell voiced his concerns about Lightfoot’s comments while discussing what families in Chicago are experiencing.

“Democrats are overlooking the crisis that families like mine face,” Caldwell told Fox News Digital. “They’re struggling and desperately seeking assistance.” He added that residents are longing for someone to genuinely address crime and implement protective measures.

He criticized Lightfoot’s views on crime as not aligning with the reality faced by the community, saying, “People are afraid. This shouldn’t be normal; it really isn’t. But the issue has been normalized, particularly by Democrats who have let down their communities.” Fox News Digital reached out to Lightfoot for her perspective on the matter.
