Murkowski encounters backlash from Republicans after supporting a Democrat instead of a Trump supporter

Alaska Gubernatorial Candidate Reacts to Murkowski’s Endorsement

Bernadette Wilson, a Republican candidate for governor of Alaska, expressed her lack of surprise over Senator Lisa Murkowski’s decision to endorse her Democratic opponent, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins. She shared her thoughts with Fox News Digital, suggesting that both Murkowski and Kreiss-Tomkins share similar views, particularly regarding taxation and matters related to the state’s oil industry.

“It shouldn’t come as a shock. They’re very much alike, and I think it’s clear that I would lead differently as governor,” Wilson remarked.

Wilson criticized Kreiss-Tomkins during her comments, pointing out his support for increasing income taxes and doubling the fuel tax in Alaska. “He’s the one who aims to go after oil companies, and he doesn’t support a full payout of the permanent fund dividend,” she noted.

At a candidate forum back in August, Kreiss-Tomkins mentioned that he sees the need for broad-based taxes to manage the state budget, a stance Wilson linked to Murkowski’s political ideology.

Wilson went on to accuse both Murkowski and Kreiss-Tomkins of endorsing what she views as “socialist policies.” She has, as she put it, been “sounding the alarm” since 2010 about Murkowski’s alignment with extreme liberal policies.

While she refrained from assigning motives to Murkowski’s endorsement decision, Wilson acknowledged the possibility that it could be seen as a response to Trump, who recently endorsed her. “I can’t say for sure, but it did come shortly after his support,” she commented.

Murkowski has faced off against several Trump-backed legislative initiatives and has articulated her disagreements with some of his priorities, including a recent vote against a voter registration bill. She has openly criticized the proposed SAVE America Act, advocating instead for more accessible voting processes.

Looking ahead, Wilson pledged that if she becomes governor, she would continue to challenge Murkowski’s actions and policies, claiming them to be detrimental and unaligned with Republican values.

Both Murkowski and Kreiss-Tomkins have yet to respond to inquiries about this situation.
