Murphy says Americans want Democrats to 'take risks right now' to 'save our democracy'

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said on Sunday that Americans wanted Democrats to “take risks now.” Party Division Funding bill.

“I fully understand my colleagues who don't want to push us to shut down, but I think Americans actually understood that Republicans had an obligation to negotiate with Democrats,” Murphy told NBC's Kristen Welker, “meet the press.”

“This is the first spending bill for the whole year since taking office in Congress written only by the Republican Party. So, yes, it would have been a risk. I understand the decisions that many of my Democrat colleagues have made, but I think Americans want us to take risks now to save our democracy,” the Connecticut Democrat added.

On Friday, a small group of Democrats voted to move forward with a Republican-raised fundraising bill despite intense opposition from many of the party. The group included Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.).

“There's a deep sense of anger and betrayal,” Ocasio-Cortez said Thursday. “And this isn't just progressive Democrats. It's all over the board – the whole party.”

President Trump praised Senate minority leaders for his decision on Friday about his true social platform.

“Congratulations to Chuck Schumer for doing the right thing. I've gotten the courage and courage! There are major tax cuts, La fire fixes, and debt cap bills, and more. We all need to cooperate in that extremely dangerous situation. Non-pass is a rural destroyer, and recognition brings us to new heights,” Trump said on the platform.
