Musk accuses Harris of lying about Trump's stance on national abortion ban

Elon Musk on Monday called former President Trump’s statement that he supports a nationwide abortion ban a lie, after Vice President Harris appeared to add community comments to a post from her campaign account.

“When will politicians, or at least the interns who run their accounts, learn that lying doesn’t work on this platform anymore?” Musk Written on social platform X On Monday morning, we included a screenshot of Harris’ statement along with a community memo explaining the context.

As of Monday afternoon, Harris’ post no longer included the community memo, and it’s unclear when or how long the memo had been there.

in Her original post “Donald Trump will ban abortion nationwide,” Harris wrote Sunday, adding, “President Joe Biden and I will do everything in our power to stop him and restore women’s reproductive freedom.”

Musk also commented directly on Harris’ post about X, writing on Sunday night that “he made it very clear he would not do that at the debate.”

President Trump’s stance on abortion has been at the center of many of the campaign’s debates. For months, he has hinted at an official stance on the hot-button issue, announcing in April that abortion laws should be left to the states.

In that announcement, he avoided taking a position on a federal abortion ban, but soon after said he would not sign such a ban, noting that “it’s no longer necessary, because we’ve violated Roe v. Wade.”

The Biden-Harris campaign responded to Musk’s accusations, Previous Report President Trump had privately indicated he supported a 16-week travel ban before making a public announcement on the matter.

The campaign also noted that Trump has repeatedly touted his role in overturning Roe v. Wade, pointing to the three justices he appointed who provided the majority needed to overturn it. They also noted that Trump has made various public comments about the case in recent months.

“Elon Musk can be Googled. Donald Trump wants to ban abortion nationwide, allow allies to ban medication abortion and birth control, and use the power of the government to harass and punish women,” campaign spokesman James Singer said in a statement.

“This election is a choice between codifying Roe and protecting women’s fundamental rights, or allowing radical politicians to interfere with medical decisions and take away women’s freedoms,” Singer added.
