Elon Musk, the tech billionaire, recently reflected on his address following Trump’s inauguration, during which he was criticized in the media for what some labeled a Nazi salute. Musk, who significantly influenced Trump’s early administration, condemned Trump’s comparisons of current events to Nazi Germany in a recent interview.
In a segment on Fox’s “My Views with Lara Trump,” the host, who is Trump’s daughter-in-law, brought up Musk’s childhood in apartheid-era South Africa, prompting him to consider the implications of such comparisons.
“It’s really just a continuous propaganda effort. President Trump has been dealing with this for maybe 20 years,” Musk mentioned, discussing the relentless nature of political attacks. “Politics is a fierce battleground, and they’ll throw any accusations they can to tarnish someone’s reputation.”
He asserted that he’s never caused harm in his life, calling it absurd to label him a Nazi and expressed his support for Trump amid similar criticisms directed at the former president.
Musk’s remarks follow a wave of backlash from Democrats against billionaires, especially as the government’s Department of Efficiency (DOGE) implemented significant layoffs and cut funding to various initiatives. His actions at post-inauguration events, coupled with his recent involvement in German elections, have certainly raised eyebrows.
Some of Trump’s allies have pointed fingers at the mainstream media, lamenting the effectiveness of propaganda. Musk commented, “It’s unfortunate how repeating falsehoods works; people still believing in the legacy media can really take those claims as truth.”
He further claimed, “They’re trying every possible angle to target me… If they could, they’d eliminate me right away. But since that’s tougher, they resort to character assassination instead.”
Support for Musk has emerged from various figures, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and an organization dedicated to combating anti-Semitism.
As for Musk’s relationship with Trump, it has gained attention as his tenure as a prominent tech advisor nears its end on May 30th. However, Trump indicated this week that Musk and other billionaire entrepreneurs could remain involved as long as they wish.
In his Saturday interview, Musk shared his view of their friendship, saying, “I believe the President considers me a friend. I think I feel the same way.” He mused that answers to similar questions might come out consistently if posed in different settings.
