Feud Between Musk and Trump May Be Diminishing
The ongoing public clash between Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, and President Donald Trump seems to be cooling off a bit. Recently, Musk and Trump exchanged sharp comments, directly following Musk’s exit from a position related to a government office focused on efficiency. However, Musk seems to be extending a hand toward the Trump administration, particularly amidst recent immigration protests in Los Angeles.
The conflict initially arose over Trump’s extensive tax and spending package, which Musk has criticized. In a post over the weekend, Musk shared Trump’s remarks about the protests and riots that erupted in Los Angeles, implying that Trump’s backing was vital for his potential 2024 election bid.
Trump, on the other hand, dismissed Musk’s relevance, stating, “Elon has lost it completely.”
Furthermore, he accused California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass of failing in their response to the ongoing riots, describing the individuals involved as “troublemakers and rebels.” Musk has also echoed similar sentiments, sharing a post from JD Vance about the riots, which called for strong leadership and condemned the unrest.
Trump has indicated that his cabinet members, including the Secretary of Defense and the Attorney General, will take all necessary measures to quell the riots and address what he refers to as an “immigration invasion.” In a statement over the weekend, he asserted that order would be restored, illegal immigrants expelled, and Los Angeles “released.”
Despite Musk’s apparent backing of Trump’s handling of the situation, tensions persist. Trump has previously criticized Musk for opposition to his tax bill, which included the elimination of electric vehicle tax credits that would support companies like Tesla. Trump expressed disappointment over Musk’s position, suggesting he initially understood the bill’s complexities better than most.
In his rebuttal, Musk challenged the inclusion of what he termed “snarky pork” in the legislation. The two continued to hurl accusations at each other, each suggesting the other’s viability in the upcoming election heavily depended on their support.
Amid this backdrop, Trump has initiated the deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to the riots sparked by recent immigration arrests. At the same time, this move has drawn criticism from Governor Newsom, who argued that Trump’s actions violated state sovereignty and disrupted the local management of resources.
In sum, the unfolding drama between Musk and Trump reflects not just personal tensions but also broader political implications, as both figures navigate a complex relationship amid external pressures and public sentiment.
