Mysterious Birds? California Residents Confused by ‘Exploding Birds’

In Richmond, California, an unsettling situation has emerged as residents report finding numerous dead birds scattered around. Some of these birds appear to “explode” into the air, prompting concern in the community. Security footage has captured instances of birds plunging to the ground after a loud popping sound.

According to reports, necropsies performed on two of the birds by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife revealed injuries typically associated with pellet guns or slingshots, ruling out electrocution as a cause. However, the exact nature of the trauma affecting all the birds remains unclear. Residents have noted that birds seem to die shortly after landing on power lines.

“When they land, they explode right away, and it’s violent,” remarked a local named Bolling to ABC News. He and his neighbors have counted at least 13 such incidents.

As the number of casualties continues to rise, locals are speculating various theories, from electrocution to potential bird attacks. Sharon Anderson, a self-described “animal lover,” expressed her distress, stating, “It was just horrifying” to witness the death of the birds.

Residents believe this troubling phenomenon began several months ago with the first dead bird sighting. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is currently investigating the situation, according to an agency spokesperson.
