Mysterious figure instills fear in NYC as supposed marketing inspiration

A new advertising campaign for the latest film “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is causing quite a stir among New Yorkers, from Coney Island to Manhattan.

The latest installment, reminiscent of the 1997 classic, has been using an unsettling figure dressed in a long black cloak, rubber boots, and a bucket hat, brandishing shiny fishing hooks. This has been circulating on social media for the past couple of weeks since the film’s release on July 18th.

In one viral clip, the ominous figure lurks behind a group of nine teenage boys at the South Street Seaport promenade just before 11 PM. One of the teens becomes aware of the stalker, whose silver blade glistens under the streetlights.

Another video captured a woman later that night near Chelsea’s Highline, visibly distressed as she looks over her shoulder. The mysterious figure trails closely behind her before she suddenly takes off running.

The same figure makes an appearance again the next day on the Coney Island boardwalk, startling three individuals and causing them to flee in panic.

Even at Battery Park, on the morning of July 11th, a woman obliviously walks past as the shadowy figure slips behind her.

Some individuals aboard the Staten Island Ferry also encountered the eerie presence, adding to the unsettling atmosphere.

As these eerie encounters spread online, many began to wonder if the cloaked figure was part of a clever marketing strategy for the sequel “I Know You’ve Leave,” which features Madeline Klein, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Curious about the tactics, reporters reached out to Sony Pictures, but, notably, there was no response.
