Suspect Identified in Manchester Synagogue Attack
The suspect involved in the synagogue attack in Manchester, England has been named as Jihad Al Shami, according to Sky News.
On Thursday morning, Al Shami drove into the Heaton Park Hebrew Congress synagogue, began attacking individuals with a knife, and was subsequently shot by police after fatally wounding two men. Authorities are working to uncover the motive behind this violent incident.
In a statement, police confirmed that they believe Al Shami, a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent, is the perpetrator. They noted that the suspicious devices he wore during the attack were examined and found to be non-functional.
Additionally, authorities have detained three individuals related to the incident but have not disclosed their identities. In their statement, police indicated that these detainees include two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s. They are suspected of involvement in actions linked to terrorism.
Previously, law enforcement commended community members for blocking Al Shami from entering the synagogue, where worshippers were attending a Yom Kippur service.
As the investigation progresses, Manchester police reiterated their commitment to understanding the motivation behind the attack.
