Nancy Grace Critiques Lawyer’s Behavior After Mistrial

On Friday’s episode of FNC’s “Hannity,” legal analyst Nancy Grace expressed her belief that attorney Kevin Reddington should have faced contempt charges for his behavior following the mistrial announcement in Plymouth, MA regarding Lindsay Clancy.

Guest host Jason Chaffetz asked Grace for her thoughts on the situation, stating, “You’ve seen a lot of courtrooms. What’s your takeaway from this verdict, mistrial?”

Grace responded, noting, “I think Judge Sullivan made the right call by reminding the jurors of Winston Churchill’s determination during tough times. The lone juror who held firm did not let the others sway him. Despite Reddington’s outbursts, which included dramatic displays outside and inside the courthouse, he should have been held in contempt. The judge maintained incredible composure—I doubt I could have shown the same patience. Nevertheless, the juror stood strong, and the law does not require one to go against their conscience.”

She continued, “If Reddington is upset, he should just deal with it. Instead, he went out and complained on the courthouse steps. In my experience with criminal cases, including homicides, it’s not unusual for a defense attorney to challenge a judge’s ruling through an immediate review. This means taking the issue straight to a higher court if they believe a decision is unconstitutional. What was unexpected here, however, was Reddington’s sudden call for review just as the jury was entering the courtroom. He appeared prepared with a lengthy document claiming bias against the mentally ill.”

“Reddington’s assertions lack any factual support—he’s alleging a constitutional bias which is just legal jargon in my opinion. This case will be retried. Although many defense attorneys claim it won’t result in a verdict, retrials often favor the state. So, Reddington better be ready for a challenging process ahead,” Grace concluded.
