Nancy Guthrie’s ransom notes seem fake, according to a criminal profiler.

Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance: Analysis of Ransom Notes and Investigation Updates

A criminal profiler has raised doubts about the authenticity of the ransom notes associated with Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. John Kelly, a veteran in the field, indicated that the notes appeared to reflect two distinct personalities: one representing a cold, calculating “psychopath” and the other, a more emotional individual.

Kelly stated, “I don’t believe they’re real.” He observed that the first note focused solely on the financial aspect, while the second seemed to convey a different mindset altogether. During the abduction, a masked individual entered Guthrie’s home with a weapon, dragging her from bed and leaving blood at the scene.

He describes the behavior of such criminals as typically psychotic, emphasizing their desire to escape rapidly without regard for a message of condolence.

Key Points in the Case

The initial ransom memo reportedly demanded millions in Bitcoin, set a payment deadline, and included specific details about the crime. These facts were not widely known at the time the memo was sent to the media. Interestingly, no clear evidence was provided alongside these demands.

Later, a second memo emerged, hinting at the possibility that Guthrie’s death was accidental during the kidnapping. A law enforcement official stated that she was “buried in nature,” adding another layer of complexity to the investigation.

Kelly noted, “She’s no longer with us. It wasn’t ‘on purpose,'” while pointing out the emotional language in the notes, which he felt didn’t align with the profile of the individual he was analyzing.

There are conflicting views regarding the genuineness of the notes. Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter and co-host of Today, mentioned that while she believes some of the communications were not authentic, she does support the legitimacy of two specific notes that warranted a response.

Authorities have taken the matter seriously; early on, special agent Heiss Janke was seen engaging with Guthrie’s family, filming video responses that addressed the first memo’s content.

As the search continues, Kelly describes the kidnapper as likely being a “very cruel person” with a lack of remorse. He stated that the kidnapper’s nonverbal cues suggested a cold demeanor typical of a sociopath.
