A ransom of $6 million for Nancy Guthrie, who is 84 years old, reportedly remains unpaid as a deadline approaches.
On February 9, TMZ reported that the Bitcoin account supposedly set up to receive the ransom linked to Savannah Guthrie’s mother still shows no funds. Savannah and her siblings expressed readiness to pay the ransom on social media on February 7, but it seems no transaction has occurred.
Despite Savannah’s urgent requests for evidence of her mother’s well-being, there has been no response. Some experts are raising doubts about the validity of the ransom note, leading to questions about whether the delay is a tactic of some sort.
The situation regarding Nancy Guthrie remains uncertain as the clock ticks down to the suggested 5 p.m. deadline.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the investigation is ongoing, yet no suspects or persons of interest have been identified.
Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker expressed skepticism on Fox News on February 8, suggesting that it’s doubtful Guthrie was actually kidnapped or that she is still alive.
“If this was a kidnapping, it would be easy to identify and prove she’s alive,” Swecker remarked. “We should consider that this might be more complicated than just a kidnapping.”
He further questioned why the supposed ransom, initially set at $1 million, surged to $6 million within a few days. “I suspect there might be a third party involved, someone trying to exploit this situation,” he commented.
The Guthrie family has maintained silence since February 7, as time runs short. Negotiations involving multi-million dollar sums could happen in mere seconds, but, presumably, might leave no traces.
