Nancy Mace Announces Run for South Carolina Governor
Rep. Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, has declared her candidacy for governor, aiming to continue the legacy of term-limited Governor Henry McMaster.
Mace joins a competitive field that includes notable candidates such as Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Ebbett, and fellow GOP Rep. Ralph Norman.
“I’m running to become the governor of South Carolina! God is not done in South Carolina, and neither am I. Let’s get started. South Carolina will lead the way, with Nancy Mace for governor,” she stated.
She further emphasized her intention to bring Trump-style policies to South Carolina, claiming, “There are officials from all over the state who remain silent while crime runs rampant. Our political class seems more focused on protecting each other than on protecting citizens.”
Mace has made headlines previously in Congress for her advocacy on women’s rights. She has been vocal against allowing biological men who identify as transgender women to use women’s restrooms in the U.S. Capitol.
In a recent Subcommittee hearing, she shared a deeply personal story about being a victim of an unconsented photo being taken of her, highlighting the serious issue of privacy violations.
In her campaign video, she outlined plans to end “Awakening Ideology” in schools, cut income taxes across the state, and implement a strict approach to crime.
Mace believes the governor’s race is essentially a showdown between herself and Wilson. “I will fight to the finish and hold the Attorney General accountable for ignoring issues affecting women and children,” she remarked.
Mace has previously accused Wilson of turning a blind eye to her allegations of sexual assault. Wilson, in response, has firmly denied her claims.
He called Mace a “liar,” suggesting her claims were efforts to distract from her voting record. “We need a governor who stands for our values, not someone who compromises them for political gain,” he added.
Mace’s campaign video also features a clip of Donald Trump praising her as a “fighter.” This is significant since Mace is among several conservative candidates looking to gain Trump’s endorsement.
Despite Trump’s positive remarks, Mace has faced criticism from some Republicans regarding her previous statements after the January 6 Capitol protests, where she suggested a need for accountability within the party.
Initially recognized for her moderate stance, including some criticism of Trump, Mace has evidently shifted toward a much more conservative platform and is now fully embracing the Maga movement.
