Nancy Mace encounters backlash following her outburst at the airport: Key details to understand

A recent incident at Charleston International Airport in South Carolina has sparked considerable criticism directed at Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.).

Following the event, Mace took to social media platform X to assert that she is suing the airport for defamation. In one of her posts, Mace expressed her frustration over the treatment of women and drew a connection to recent violent incidents involving public figures.

Mace questioned why two men accompanied by numerous security personnel would react negatively toward a woman who felt endangered for her beliefs. She emphasized that “real men protect women,” pointing out a stark difference in treatment.

The situation unfolded on October 30 when Mace was scheduled to have an early morning meeting with officials from the Charleston County Aviation Department. As police looked for her transportation, they received notifications of her delay.

Dispatch reports indicated that Mace was at the entrance to the Known Crew Program. Upon arrival, she reportedly expressed her anger and made derogatory comments toward the officers present, calling them “totally incompetent” and complaining about how a U.S. representative shouldn’t be treated this way.

As the officers escorted her to the gate, the shouting continued. It was noted that one American Airlines agent expressed disbelief at Mace’s behavior, suggesting that such conduct was unbecoming of public officials.

Officers later discovered that a different vehicle had been at the airport instead of the expected one. Security personnel voiced intentions to file a report regarding Mace’s behavior during the incident.

In the aftermath, Mace’s operations director commented on the amplified safety concerns surrounding her due to threats, especially after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. He stressed that such security measures are essential and warned against politicizing safety issues.

On November 3, Mace emphasized on FOX Business that the shortage of security personnel poses a significant issue, calling for higher standards for security and accountability.

That same day, she shared communications showcasing interactions between her team and airport security regarding her arrival time. One staff member indicated that Mace would be arriving late, leading to some confusion at the airport.

In response to Mace’s comments about him, Sen. Tim Scott remarked positively about his own experiences at the airport and criticized the use of profanity in public, remarking that such behavior is unacceptable, especially from Congress members dealing with constituents.

Sen. Lindsey Graham also voiced support for Scott’s defense of airport workers, sharing his own positive interactions with security personnel at Charleston International Airport.
