Nancy Meyers responds to 'The Holiday' series at Apple TV+: 'I had no idea'

Potential “Holiday” Series Without Nancy Meyers

So, there’s talk of a new series based on the 2006 Christmas romcom, “The Holiday,” and surprise, surprise—Nancy Meyers, the original creator, seems out of the loop. She recently posted on her Instagram Stories, stating, “News to me,” after stumbling upon announcements about the Apple TV+ series. Imagine her reaction opening Instagram and finding that news!

The original film, which she both wrote and directed, follows Iris (Kate Winslet) and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) as they swap homes for the holidays, inevitably leading each to find romance with Jack Black and Jude Law. Classic holiday charm, right?

According to reports, Meyers hasn’t been involved in this adaptation at all. It seems Apple is looking to cast new faces for these iconic roles. Krissie Ducker is set to write and executive produce, with Rob Delaney on board as a consultant.

In the past, Meyers had expressed no intention of revisiting this film. It’s kind of surprising, really. Just last year, she shared a screenshot from a Daily Mail article claiming the original cast would be returning for a sequel. She quickly shot down those rumors, saying, “Sorry, but that’s not true,” alongside a heart emoji. Yet, in a cute twist, she and Jude Law recently reunited to celebrate his Hollywood Walk of Fame star, which was a nice moment.

During that meeting, she playfully asked Jude about a possible sequel. It was lighthearted, and both seemed genuinely pleased to see each other. Law responded positively but with one condition: he’d want Meyers to be involved in any continuation of the “Holiday” story. He even mentioned how unique her filmmaking is, noting the special atmosphere she creates in her films.

There’s something intriguing about the idea of revisiting those sweet couples, isn’t there? What would their lives look like now? Who knows—there may still be room for more festive feats in the future, especially if the original team could partner up again.
