Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has seemingly cautioned House Democrats against rushing to impeach if President Trump regains power in Congress following the midterm elections.

She emphasized that Trump’s actions will dictate whether a third impeachment is justified, while criticizing the 47th president for enabling Democrats to attempt to oust him twice during his first term.

“I’ve told people that Donald Trump is essentially responsible for his own impeachment,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) stated in an interview on ABC News’ “This Week” that aired Sunday.

“This isn’t something for you to decide. It’s about violations of the Constitution. It’s not just a matter of saying, ‘Oh, let’s go impeach him.’

Some Democrats, including Congressman Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) and Congressman Al Green (D-Texas), have already proposed impeachment measures against Trump. However, the party’s leaders have expressed disapproval of these actions.

Many supporters of Trump, as well as Republicans, are convinced that Democrats have intentions of pursuing a third impeachment if they regain the House in the 2026 midterms.

Trump seeks to avoid that outcome. If the Democrats reclaim the chamber, they would control influential investigative committees and launch extensive inquiries into both his presidency and his family.

“At this moment, Republicans in Congress are dismantling Congress. They’re just following the president’s lead. It’s done,” she remarked.

Pelosi further noted, “We have the authority to issue subpoenas to gather information from government agencies that haven’t been forthcoming.”

A congressman, who recently revealed retirement plans, expressed confidence that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will assume the speaker’s position in January 2027.

If this prediction comes to pass, the New York congresswoman would return to a role similar to the one she held as the chief adversary of Trump during his first term.

Pelosi reminisced about her confrontations with Trump, notably recalling when she tore up his 2020 State of the Union address.

“People enjoy speeches that evoke emotion,” she chuckled. “I wasn’t looking to create a scene.”

“I ripped out the first page because it contained a lie, then the next page, and so on,” she continued. “Now that speech is printed on sturdy paper, so you have to go through it multiple times to get it right.”
