On Monday afternoon, nearly 24 hours after President Joe Biden ended his reelection effort and endorsed Harris, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his running mate.
Pelosi’s announcement ended speculation about what she might do, but ultimately came as no surprise, as Democrats and party elites backed Harris.
“Today, with great pride and boundless optimism for the future of our nation, I endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president of the United States,” Pelosi said in a statement. “My enthusiastic endorsement of Kamala Harris is official, personal and political.”

Pelosi’s fingerprints were all over Biden’s forced retreat, with the former speaker playing perhaps the most important role in convincing Biden that there was no path to victory.
Biden has vowed to continue campaigning unless he receives a message from “Almighty God.”
In the absence of intervention from on high, Pelosi, perhaps the closest thing to a god in the Democratic Party, has reportedly stepped in, using polls and tough rhetoric to convince Biden that there is no path forward and that efforts to oust him will become increasingly public — and personal.
The party’s path to formally select Ms. Harris remains unclear — no other candidates have filed for the presidency — and with each passing day, Ms. Harris solidifies her support among donors and party elites, making it increasingly unlikely that anyone will challenge her dominance.
