Pelosi Criticized by Former Capitol Police Chief Over January 6 Statements

The former Chief of Capitol Police has strongly criticized California Democrat Nancy Pelosi after she referenced the January 6 riot while condemning President Donald Trump’s federal intervention in Washington, D.C.

Pelosi accused Trump of attempting to distract the public by federalizing local police and deploying national law enforcement to combat crime.

“When you needed help, it was rejected. But when it suited you, you ordered fencing topped with concert wire and surrounded the Legislature with thousands of armed National Guard members,” she stated.

In response to Pelosi, Stephen Sund, the former Capitol Police Chief during the January 6 incident, offered a firm yet respectful rebuttal.

“It’s time to be honest with the American people. On January 3, I requested National Guard assistance, but your sergeant denied it. According to federal law, I couldn’t call them in that same afternoon,” he explained.

“Even on January 6, while the Capitol was under siege, my urgent request for help was again denied by your sergeant, who refused to escalate it for approval,” Sund added. He emphasized, “When I needed help, it was denied. Yet, when it suited you, you ordered fencing and armed National Guard personnel around the Capitol.”

His statement quickly garnered over 16,000 supporters within hours of being posted. Earlier, Sund had also pushed back on Pelosi’s narrative regarding January 6 in comments made to Blaze News.

During a media briefing, Trump declared, “This is D.C.’s release day, and we’re taking back our capital.” He referenced his authority, claiming he was officially invoking Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to tackle crime issues.

Attorney General Pam Bondy echoed Trump’s sentiments, stating, “D.C.’s crime issues are being addressed now. We will utilize every resource necessary to combat this crisis.”
