Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was so outraged that she scolded CNN host Jake Tapper on Tuesday for not doing his job as a journalist.
During the interview with the former House speaker, which focused on Vice President Kamala Harris' reluctance to lay out a substantive plan for America and her habit of avoiding media interviews, Pelosi defended Harris, saying she had “no complaints about the way she's doing things.” [Harris] We are moving forward.”
“There is no need to talk about the stupidity, the bizarreness and the violence against women of this case.”
But the interview turned contentious midway through as Tapper focused on the presidential candidate's cognitive abilities.
Tapper then played a video of Donald Trump criticizing Harris' cognitive abilities.
“The whole world is laughing at us. Everyone's laughing at us. But you know what everyone's really laughing at? Kamala. Because they can't believe she's going to be president. They can't believe it,” Trump said in the video. “They're talking about cognitive impairment, and in my opinion, her cognitive impairment is greater than his.”
The fact that Tapper dared to justify his criticism of Trump infuriated Pelosi.
“Why are you reporting that!” the California Democrat yelled.
“This guy is out of touch. He's a presidential candidate and he's incompetent,” she continued. “I'm not going to talk about the stupidity of this, the weirdness of this, the violence against women. I'm not going to talk about the issues. He's incompetent.”
Pelosi then launched into a series of angry attacks against President Trump, claiming that “the only thing” he's done as president is pass legislation that benefits the wealthiest Americans (not true), that he has a “worse record on job creation than any president since Herbert Hoover” (not true), and that he is “responsible for thousands of people dying” during the COVID-19 pandemic (not true).
“Incompetence. Forget the stupidity and the insanity and the fraud and all the rest of it. Incompetence,” Pelosi fumed.
Tapper tried to correct Pelosi's lie, reminding her that the job losses that occurred under Trump in 2020 were not his fault, but the result of states shutting down during the coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately, Tapper had the courage to defend himself.
“Let me be clear: why am I showing this clip? I'm showing this clip because he's the Republican nominee for president and I thought people might respond to that,” he explained.
After all, it's Tapper's job as a journalist to report on the voices of leading presidential candidates, and Pelosi's response to Tapper simply doing his job and not covering Harris favorably is instructive.
