Nancy Pelosi slams Trump’s ‘shameful’ pardons of Jan. 6 defendants

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Monday night criticized President Donald Trump for pardoning more than 1,000 people involved in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot.

President Trump signed pardons for nearly 1,500 defendants charged with crimes stemming from the Capitol attack, fulfilling a promise in December to act quickly and grant clemency.

On Monday, President Trump commuted the sentences of six people, including leaders of the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys extremist groups.

But Pelosi called the move “disgraceful” and said she would remember the “courage” of the “heroes” in law enforcement who “guaranteed the survival of our democracy.”
