Investigation at Former NASCAR Driver’s Home
Last week, sheriff’s deputies looked into reports of trespassing and theft at the Mooresville home of former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, who tragically lost his life in last month’s plane crash.
The incident was recorded on January 8, as detailed in an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office report, marking the alleged break-in at Biffle’s residence.
Sheriff Darren Campbell mentioned on Wednesday that investigators think someone accessed the home’s safe. He noted that along with $30,000 in cash, a stolen backpack, a gun, and various memorabilia were reported missing.
Interestingly, no arrests have been made, and it appears no one was at home during the alleged incident. The last known sighting of the property being secure was on the afternoon of January 7.
Campbell indicated they’re actively investigating, awaiting digital evidence, and conducting interviews, which seems rather typical in cases like this.
In a sad turn of events, on December 18, Biffle, along with his wife, children, and three others, perished when their business jet crashed shortly after takeoff, just a short distance from the Statesville airport, which is roughly 45 miles north of Charlotte.
Federal investigators revealed that the Cessna C550 crashed just short of the runway, resulting in a significant fire, and all individuals on board were sadly lost. The cause of this crash hasn’t been disclosed yet.
Interestingly, Biffle was among three people on the flight who held pilot licenses. However, following the crash, investigators were unable to determine who was piloting the plane.
A memorial service for Biffle, a celebrated NASCAR driver with 19 Cup Series victories, as well as the six others who died in the crash, is scheduled for Friday morning at a venue in Charlotte.
