A 17-year-old Nashville high school student shot and killed a female classmate in the school cafeteria on Wednesday, injured another, and then shot himself, police said.
The injured girl suffered gunshot wounds, WSMV TV reporteda fourth victim, a boy, suffered injuries to his face but was not shot, police told the sheriff's office.
Police said SWAT units cleared Antioch High School, and police said there was no further threat to the public, the department added.
According to WSMV, Metro Nashville Police are asking parents to call 615-401-1712 for information regarding reunions. All students, including those in cars, will be taken by bus to Ascension St. Thomas Hospital, 3754 Murfreesboro Pike.
Metro Nashville Public Schools released a statement regarding the incident, which occurred around 11 a.m. local time Wednesday.
“Antioch High School is on lockdown due to shots fired inside the school building. The Metropolitan Police Department is on scene. The person responsible for the shooting is no longer a threat. We will gather students in the auditorium and provide information regarding reunions as soon as possible. “We plan to provide this,” the statement said.
“This is an active crime scene and investigation. We are working with MNPD and will provide further updates as they become available,” they added.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the shooting, the release said.

Nashville is the site of a mass shooting in 2023 at Covenant School, a private Christian school on the campus of Covenant Presbyterian Church. A person who identified as transgender shot and killed three children and three adults before being shot and killed by police who responded to the incident.
