Health Scare for Christian Singer Natalie Grant
Christian artist Natalie Grant recently shared a surprising health scare she experienced. In a recent conversation, she opened up about what it meant for her to pay tribute to Dolly Parton at the Dove Awards, along with detailing a hospitalization due to internal bleeding.
Grant shared that after moving her daughter into her college dorm, they had a celebratory dinner with her husband. However, she tripped and fell, stating her foot “caught this brick on the ground,” leading to a belly flop onto the pavement.
Initially, she brushed off the pain, thinking, “Maybe I broke a rib” or “That’s going to leave a bruise.” Despite feeling sore, she continued on to dinner, believing everything would be fine. It wasn’t until she realized she had internal bleeding that she recognized it was serious. Upon reaching the emergency room, doctors noted that her kidney was bleeding, and she was unable to urinate, warning her that her bladder might rupture.
When she first arrived at the hospital, the staff were puzzled about her condition. It was only after being admitted to the ICU that the severity of her situation became apparent.
“I had a catheter, and you could see the blood kept filling. I wouldn’t stop bleeding,” she recalled. “That’s when they decided to take me for surgery. They assured me that coming in quickly was crucial; going to a larger hospital might have been too late for me.”
Even while dealing with her pain, Grant found her thoughts often drifted to her kids. She expressed how mothers tend to worry about everyone else, even during their struggles. She couldn’t help but think of her daughter, who is prone to fainting at the sight of blood, and her other two daughters back in Nashville, considering how she would break the news to them.
“I was in pain but didn’t want to miss celebrating my daughter’s accomplishments. We went to dinner together, aiming to create a cherished memory,” she mentioned, while also reflecting on how much she was hurting.
After this frightening ordeal, Grant now emphasizes to her fans the importance of listening to one’s body. “God designed our bodies to give us warning signs,” she said, stressing that too often, people ignore these signals until it’s too late.
Months later, Grant reports she has completely healed. Interestingly enough, she found out that she did break a rib during her fall, which turned out to be the most painful part of her injury.
Reflecting on her recovery, she stated, “Just last week, I had a cystoscopy to check everything, and everything looks fantastic. It’s fully healed—there’s even a scar, which I find meaningful.” She expressed gratitude for the good medical care she received and thanked God that things didn’t take a turn for the worse.
In addition to her health updates, Grant also recently honored Dolly Parton at the Dove Awards. She recalled feeling emotional during the planning phase, particularly in considering how to represent someone of Parton’s caliber.
Grant shared her approach to the tribute, stating, “I pondered how to honor someone who has influenced not just music, but the world.” Eventually, she connected with Parton’s deep faith and the significant role it played in her life, highlighting this in her tribute.
