Natalie Portman bids farewell to Los Angeles and celebrates French culture.

Natalie Portman has been enjoying a more private life in Paris with her two children, away from the Hollywood spotlight. She recently expressed her fondness for the city’s ability to maintain discretion. “I think the biggest compliment is when they say, ‘Elle Est Très Disete’—she is very discreet,” she noted, after her recent collaboration with choreographer Benjamin Millepied.

Upon her return to Paris, Portman has settled into life as a mother to her 13-year-old daughter, Amalia, and another child, emphasizing the warm greetings her children receive from friends whenever they visit. “All the kids come in saying, ‘Bonjour Madame,’ and they leave with a ‘Thank you for having me,'” she explained, recalling how the kids interact with her family.

After moving to Paris in 2014 when Millepied took a role with the Paris Opera Ballet, the couple briefly returned to Los Angeles in 2016. Portman had remarked on Jimmy Kimmel’s show about the friendliness in L.A. compared to what she perceived as a cooler demeanor in France.

She reflected on cultural differences, suggesting that while there’s an assumption that all Western cultures resemble one another due to media, that’s not entirely true. “Here, there’s a very specific way of interacting,” she added, suggesting that the cultural nuances require understanding.

Portman expressed admiration for the vibrant culture of Paris. Despite the sometimes bleak weather, she finds the city bustling with engaging activities, showcasing impressive art, concerts, and literary gatherings. “There are always exciting events happening,” she concluded, encapsulating her appreciation for life in the City of Light.
