Natasha Rothwell Criticizes ICE at Independent Spirit Awards

At the Independent Spirit Awards ceremony on Sunday, Natasha Rothwell, known for her role in “White Lotus,” broke from the script to express her feelings about ICE. She declared, “Hey, guys! I’m going to the teleprompter and I just want to say ‘f—k ICE,'” prompting applause from the audience.

Rothwell joins a wave of celebrities, like Billie Eilish and Bad Bunny, who have recently criticized the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. Eilish and Bad Bunny made similar statements during the Grammy Awards just weeks earlier.

Following Rothwell’s remarks, debates emerged online, with some critics labeling her as a “classless liberal.” Meanwhile, fellow actors Tessa Thompson and Lake Bell turned heads by wearing anti-ICE badges at the Hollywood Palladium event, continuing the protest against the agency.

Additionally, “Breaking Bad” actress Taylor Dearden was seen sporting an anti-ICE pin, highlighting a broader trend among celebrities speaking out against the agency.

The activism gained momentum following the tragic deaths of Renee Good and Alex Preti. Preti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse and anti-ICE protester, died just weeks after Good, who was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.

At the Grammy Awards, Eilish received the award for Song of the Year for her track “Wildflower.” In her acceptance speech, she insisted that “no one is an illegal alien in stolen land,” reiterating her sentiment of “fk ICE.” Her comments have sparked significant backlash, with critics accusing her of posturing and urging her to relinquish her lavish LA home to Native American communities.

Political commentator Brandon Tatum remarked that if Eilish truly believed in her statements, she should donate her Malibu mansion to an immigrant family, calling her a “pretentious idiot.” Such views seem to echo a growing skepticism around celebrity activism.

Adding to this ongoing dialogue, Bad Bunny also called for “ICE OUT” while accepting the award for Best Musical Urbana Album. The conversation has sparked mixed reactions, reflected even during his halftime performance at the Super Bowl, which was described by President Trump as an “insult to America’s greatness.”
