Navajo Police ID person of interest in northern Arizona shooting

Authorities were searching for a person of interest in connection with Monday’s shooting in a small community on the vast Navajo Nation in northern Arizona.

The shooting occurred in Cameron, about 80 miles north of Flagstaff, according to Navajo Nation Police.

Police did not immediately release details about the shooting, but asked for the public’s help in locating Derrick Myron, 44.

Police said Myron, who is considered armed and dangerous, was driving a black pickup truck with New Mexico license plates toward the city of Tuba, about 44 miles northeast of Cameron. It is said that there is a possibility.

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident and was not a threat to the community.

The shelter-in-place order for residents near Cameron Branch and the Mormon Church was lifted around 10:30 a.m.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately known. Police said the FBI in Flagstaff will investigate the incident.
