Navarro on what it’s like reporting to prison: ‘I’m pissed. That’s what I’m feeling right now’

President Trump’s former aide Peter Navarro is headed to prison after he reported Tuesday that he will serve a four-month sentence in Miami for failing to respond to a Congressional subpoena. He said he was “offended” by this.

“It came to a head. That’s how I feel right now.” He said. “But there’s one thing that scares me. I’m worried about this country because what they’re doing, regardless of party, should have a chilling effect.”

“They’re coming for me, and they’re coming for you,” Navarro continued.

U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts struck down a last-ditch effort to preserve Navarro’s freedom as the former Trump adviser sought to appeal his conviction for contempt of Congress.

Navarro told a crowded group of reporters at the beginning of a press conference in a parking lot next to the prison. He said Tuesday there was a “small story” about him going to prison, but he suggested there were two larger stories that he “might want to report on and even investigate.”

Former President Trump’s economic adviser “fact-checks” reporters about the “unprecedented attack on the constitutional separation of powers” and “partisan weaponization of our judicial system” since Trump was elected. I suggested that it be done.

“If I walked into that prison today, the judicial system as it stands today would be a devastating blow to the constitutional separation of powers and executive privilege,” he said.

Mr. Navarro, 74, was convicted last year on two counts of contempt of Congress. One of the charges is that he failed to provide documents related to the investigation, and the other is that he omitted a deposition before a House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

A district judge barred Navarro from invoking executive privilege as part of his defense.

A former adviser to President Trump said he does not want a pardon even if Trump wins re-election this fall and believes the Supreme Court will rule on the merits of his case.

He criticized President Biden and Democrats for not granting release while the appeal is pending, because courts have already spent time before reviewing the appeal.

“But that’s the price of living now in Joe Biden’s America,” Navarro said. “God bless you. See you on the other side.”
