NBA Sportscaster Kenny Smith Blasted for ‘Women’s Line’ Comments After 3-Point Contest

NBA sportscaster Kenny Smith is under fire for sexist comments he made during a 3-point shooting contest between NBA star Stephen Curry and WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu on Saturday.

Mr. Ionescu celebrated the event.

“For both of us, to finally be able to come out here and film in front of everyone watching instead of in a closed gym and what it means not only to us but to the big picture. It was very real to understand,” she said after the game. “This is where I wanted to be…It changed the way people looked at what we were doing.”

But Smith suggested Ionescu should have taken the shot from the WNBA line instead of the same line Curry used. Had she done so, Smith argued, she would have won.

“She should have taken the shot from the girls line,” Smith said. “It would have been a fair contest. I’m still rooting for Sabrina. But she should have shot from the direction women shoot.”

Smith’s broadcast partner, Reggie Miller, was a little uncomfortable with this comment and wondered why he needed to appear if he chose not to.

However, Smith said, “She should have taken the shot from the line. Golf has women’s tees and men’s tees for a reason.”

However, Smith faced backlash for his comments.

“Kenny Smith was a complete clown last night (lol),” Savage Sports wrote in X. “Sabrina Ionescu narrowly lost the 3-point battle to Stephen Curry. She would have tied for first with the other men. And Kenny Smith has to add, “She still All I can say is, “I should have taken the shot from the girls 3-point line.” The NBA could probably do better than that (laughs).”

ESPN’s Justin Tinsley slammed Smith, saying he sounded “outrageously condescending.”
