The victim, identified by Lumberton police as Jonathan Adam LeCompte, 38, is seen confronting the suspect, Ricky Driggers, 28, in a crowded parking lot.

“Oh my god, don’t get in the truck, you idiot,” yells Lecompte, who pulls out a gun.

The suspect ignored him, jumped into the driver’s seat and closed the door, but LeCompte opened fire. At least four gunshots can be heard in the video.

The suspect reversed the truck into a crash and then reversed through the parking lot.

LeCompte and another man remain in the lane when the truck reappears in the video, speeding toward them.

“Get out of the way!” Bystanders can be heard shouting.

Lecompte was unable to stop in time and collided head-on with his own truck, throwing him into the air and dragging him over a curb and across a grass field for about 20 yards.

The driver, identified by police as Driggers, attempted to flee by driving across a field to another parking lot.

The man was later arrested after he wrecked the truck on Highway 41, police said. News Station, WBTW. First responders transported LeCompte to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Driggers is currently being held without bail on charges of first-degree murder, auto theft, attempted robbery and evading arrest, according to court records.

At the time of his arrest, he was facing charges for driving without a license, reckless driving, driving under the influence, and numerous traffic violations.
