Nearly 90,000 massage guns recalled due to fire, burn risks

(WHTM) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that approximately 87,000 massage guns sold at major retailers nationwide will be recalled.

The Homedics Massager (sold as the Homedics Therapist Select Percussion Massager) can “overheat while charging,” creating a risk of fire and burns. Recall notice. As of Thursday, Home Dicks had 17 confirmed cases of overheating, including one who suffered a burnt thumb.

The massage guns cost about $100 each and were sold at retailers nationwide including Macy's, BJ's, JC Penney, Lowe's, and Home Depot from September 2020 to November 2023. These were sold online at many outlet sites as well as Amazon.com.

The recall only applies to massagers with model number HHP-715 and those manufactured in 2020, 2021, or 2022. Consumers can check the date of manufacture with a sticker on the underside of the “barrel” with his four-digit date code. The last two digits indicate the year of manufacture (e.g. “20”, “21”, “22”).

Approximately 46,000 units of this massager were sold in the United States and the remaining 41,000 units were sold in Canada.

Consumers with recalled massagers should stop using them and contact Homedics for a refund. According to the notice, the company will also offer a 20% bonus to those who choose to get a refund in product credit.
