Nebraska woman thought dead found alive at funeral home

A hospice patient who was thought to be dead was found alive and breathing by staff at a Nebraska funeral home, police said.

Constance Glantz, 74, was pronounced dead Monday morning at Lincoln Nursing Home, where she was receiving hospice care, and was transported to Bucelas-Mather & Love Funeral Home. According to ABC News:.

However, just before noon, funeral home staff were preparing her body when they noticed she was breathing, and they immediately began CPR and called the authorities.

Glantz was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is receiving treatment and is still alive, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

“This is a very unusual case,” Lancaster County Deputy County Commissioner Ben Houchin said.

“I’ve been doing this for 31 years and I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

Because Glantz was staying at a hospice center, staff there expected her death and there was nothing suspicious about her death, so the nursing home is not expected to face charges.

“No criminal intent has been found at the care home, but the investigation is ongoing,” Houchin said.
