Fans of Taylor Swift were understandably upset on Thursday after the University of Nebraska issued a now-deleted tweet involving the singer. This came on the heels of a 20-17 win against the Cincinnati Bearcats, which is where her fiancé, Travis Kelce, played college football.
Swift and Kelce were attending a game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
The tweet contained an image collage showcasing the couple’s recent engagement, replacing Nebraska’s “Herby Husker” mascot with a nod to Kelce.
“Change Plans,” was the caption, which featured the mascot making a playful pose.
This didn’t sit well with many fans. Swifties rallied quickly on social media, and the post was swiftly taken down.
“I don’t like that,” one user remarked, while another urged, “Swifties Unite. Be careful.” Some Nebraska supporters even criticized the tweet.
One Nebraska native expressed frustration, stating, “What were y’all thinking? I’ve supported Taylor since 2006, and removing it doesn’t change the fact it shouldn’t have been posted.”
Dave Portnoy, of Barstool Sports, also voiced his discontent, identifying himself as a fan of Swift. He said, “I’m a Big 10 guy, and I was unhappy with that tweet.” He added his own declaration, implying he felt the need to defend Swift’s honor.
During the game, Swift and Kelce, along with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, were seen enjoying the match from a private suite.
As the game ended, Swift showcased her engagement ring, looking radiant in a white outfit.
Swift and Kelce, who began dating in 2023, shared their engagement photos on Instagram, expressing their excitement.
In their joint post, they humorously captioned it with, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are married,” to the tune of their favorite track, which is linked to their earlier days.
Kelce proposed with a unique old mine-cut diamond ring that he co-designed with jewellers. His father, Ed Kelce, later revealed that the proposal took place at home almost two weeks prior.
