Minneapolis Shooting: Residents Reflect on Suspected Shooter

Minneapolis, Min. – Two residents living in the same complex as suspected shooter Robin Westman expressed their surprise over his actions in a recent interview. They described Westman, a 23-year-old, as an ordinary tenant, raising questions about what could have led to the tragic event.

The residents, both mental health professionals who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that Westman blended in like any other young adult. One of them remarked, “He looked like anyone else in the neighborhood. You see people every day. It’s hard to pinpoint who might be different.” They also mentioned another woman living with Westman in the Lynwood Commons apartment.

“I didn’t notice anything unusual about him,” the man said, adding that his daily routine was quite normal. “I went about my life—grabbed some takeout, went to work, came home. Everything seemed fine.” Both individuals emphasized that, given their expertise, they would have detected any signs of instability, but there were none.

“We’re in mental health and saw nothing alarming,” the woman added. “He just seemed like a regular guy.” They noted that the size of the complex, which includes several buildings, meant limited interaction with Westman. “You come and go. Unless something is really wrong, you don’t pay much attention,” the man explained.

Westman had no prior criminal record and, surprisingly, no significant red flags regarding mental health issues. Reflecting on their past encounters, the woman mused, “You think back and wonder—why didn’t I notice anything at the time?” Yet, both lamented the chaos that ensued after the shooting at the Announcement Catholic School.

Authorities report that Westman allegedly opened fire around 8:30 a.m. during a prayer session, resulting in the deaths of two children and injuries to 17 others, including adults. Following the incident, Westman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was reportedly armed with three firearms at the time of the shooting.

She extended her sympathies to Westman’s parents as well, stating, “I can’t imagine the pain they’re going through.” Another resident mentioned that she had never interacted with Westman and confirmed seeing police search his apartment earlier that day.
