Neil Bush Supports Texas Democrat James Talarico

In a surprising move, Neil Bush, a member of the prominent Bush family, has expressed his support for Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico. He mentioned his disapproval of a political style he believes has “damaged our country.”

On Facebook, Neil stated, “I’ve never shared a political sentiment online, mainly because I didn’t want to upset friends who might think differently. But today I broke that habit—I voted early, and my choice was James Talarico for the Senate.”

His decision was driven by a couple of factors. He conveyed his deep concern regarding Ken Paxton’s track record and his genuine admiration for Talarico’s character and values.

This endorsement marks a notable departure from the family’s traditional Republican affiliations, especially as Neil is the son of former President George H.W. Bush and brother to former President George W. Bush.

Interestingly, Neil’s brother, George W. Bush, has maintained cordial relations with several Democratic former presidents, although his connection with Donald Trump has been strained since the contentious 2016 Republican primary, where Trump criticized Jeb Bush and made dismissive comments about their mother, Barbara Bush.

Neil voiced his dissatisfaction with Trump and his supporters, emphasizing that it’s concerning when loyalty to an individual supersedes commitment to principles. He mentioned, “My vote today was influenced by more than just my opposition to Ken Paxton.”

Additionally, Neil isn’t the only Bush family member backing Talarico. Barbara Bush, daughter of George W. Bush, has also shown her support by donating $2,500 to a super PAC that champions Talarico’s campaign.

This PAC, known as Lone Star Rising, has emerged as a major player in the effort to support Talarico and counter Paxton in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive Texas Senate race.

Meanwhile, George W. Bush has been publicly embracing bipartisan relationships as a former president. This includes attending events like the recent opening of Barack Obama’s presidential center in Chicago.

Despite their political differences, George and Michelle Obama have often highlighted their friendship. In a light-hearted moment at the Obama Center opening, George even gifted Michelle some Altoids, humorously recalling their well-known mint exchange at John McCain’s funeral.
