Next week, President Trump is set to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss various topics, including military actions relating to Iran, trade matters, and the ongoing conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, along with the situation regarding hostages there.
They’re expected to gather at the White House on Monday.
While departing the White House in Florida, Trump remarked, “He’s here. We’re talking about a lot. We’re talking about great success. We’ve had incredible success in Iran,” in reference to the strikes involving both the U.S. and Israel.
“I’ll also talk about Gaza,” he added.
Netanyahu emphasized the significance of Iran during a government meeting on Tuesday, stating, “Utilizing success is not an important part of achieving success.”
The Israeli Prime Minister noted there are several matters to discuss regarding a potential trade deal with the U.S., mentioning a meeting with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Following tariffs imposed by Trump in April, Israel is facing a 10% tax on imports, with mutual tariffs of 17% expected to take effect on July 9th.
Additionally, Netanyahu is poised to meet with key U.S. officials, including Vice President Vance, Secretary of State, National Security Advisor Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses, as well as Trump’s envoy for the Middle East and Russia, Steve Witkov.
Trump recently indicated he sees a possible ceasefire in Gaza and has called for a resolution to secure the release of hostages. He shared thoughts on True Social, stating, “Make a contract in Gaza. Take the hostages back!!! DJT.”
However, Israel continues to escalate artillery strikes on coastal regions, and while Netanyahu has hinted at the end of military operations in Gaza, he hasn’t explicitly agreed to any potential deal. During a visit to a facility in southern Israel, he mentioned that the attacks on Iran opened “many opportunities.”
“Firstly, to save the hostages. Certainly, we need to address the Gaza issue and defeat Hamas, but I think we can meet both objectives,” he expressed.
The Hostage Family Forum, an NGO advocating for the release of those held by Hamas, criticized the choice of words, preferring “release” over “rescue.” They noted, “A word of difference can mean the difference between hostage salvation and loss.”
