On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a series of retaliatory strikes against Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The Houthis had previously stated that their actions were in support of Palestinians in Gaza, and they claimed responsibility for the missile launch.
In a video shared on his personal X account, Netanyahu emphasized that the response to the Houthi attacks would involve multiple actions rather than just a single strike.
“We’re collaborating with the US to address this. We’ve taken action against them before, and we will continue to do so. This isn’t about a single incident; it’s a sustained effort,” he remarked.
The ballistic missile fired by the Houthis struck approximately 75 meters from Terminal 3 at Ben Gurion Airport, located just outside of Tel Aviv. It managed to evade the four-story air defense system, resulting in a 25-meter deep crater near an access road within the airport’s perimeter, a very sensitive area.
The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) reported that there were several attempts to intercept the missile, but they were unsuccessful, leading to smoke rising in the vicinity. Thankfully, while the missile did not directly hit any terminal facilities, it caused considerable panic among those inside the building.
The Israeli national emergency service, Magen David Adom (MDA), reported that at least eight individuals sustained injuries during the incident.
