Nets Secure First Winning Streak of the Season

CHICAGO — The Brooklyn Nets have finally put together a winning streak.

They defeated the Chicago Bulls 113-103 at the United Center, in front of a crowd of 20,633. This marks two victories in a row for the Nets, and honestly, it felt a bit easier than I had anticipated.

The Nets (5-16) built a 19-point lead in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of a Bulls team struggling with injuries.

Michael Porter Jr. led the way with a standout performance, scoring 33 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists. He’s playing at an All-Star level, which is impressive considering the state of his team.

Noah Clowney added 20 points and seven rebounds, while Nick Claxton contributed an all-around effort with 14 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, three blocks, and two steals.

The real story, though, was Brooklyn’s defense, which effectively shut down a depleted Bulls lineup.

Josh Giddy managed a triple-double for Chicago, ending up with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. However, the Bulls were missing several key players, including Coby White, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and Isaac Okoro.

The Nets didn’t let the absence of those players deter them. They hit a season-high 19-of-46 from beyond the arc while holding the Bulls to just 7-of-30 from three-point range.

Porter wasted no time making an impact, scoring 14 points in the first quarter.

Brooklyn maintained a fragile 20-18 lead with just three minutes left in the first period before unleashing a 19-4 run.

A 3-pointer from rookie Danny Wolf, assisted by teammate Drake Powell, extended the lead to 37-24 early in the second half.

Porter added a technical free throw to push the score to 45-30.

The Nets allowed the Bulls to cut the lead down to 10 when Giddy hit a 3-pointer, bringing the score to 56-51 midway through the third quarter. Yet, Brooklyn quickly escalated back with a 14-2 run of their own.

Another 3-pointer from Porter, this time off a Claxton assist, brought the score to 70-53.

Clowney’s 3-pointer with just over eight minutes left solidified their control at 97-78.

Brooklyn kept their grip on the game, but it’s worth noting that they currently sit in fifth place in the lottery standings, 1.5 games behind Washington and Indiana, and just a half-game behind No. 4 Sacramento after the Kings’ recent loss.

The Nets will be hosting Utah on Thursday as they continue their back-to-back games.
