Nets improve their lottery odds with defeat against Bucks on the road

Nets’ Loss Bolsters Lottery Odds

On Friday, the Nets faced a tough defeat, losing 125-108 to the Bucks in Milwaukee. This loss, though disappointing, significantly improved their chances of landing a higher pick in next month’s lottery.

Brooklyn, with a record of 20-61, sits in third place in the standings and has just one game left in the regular season, which is scheduled for Sunday in Toronto.

They are currently trailing Indiana by one game but are a game and a half behind Utah and Sacramento. Utah is expected to play against Memphis, while Sacramento is set to meet Golden State.

Despite the loss—made worse by being down ten players—the Nets have secured a top three position in the lottery standings thanks to wins from both Utah and Sacramento. All three top lottery seeds share a 14% chance of winning, and a 40.1% chance of selecting AJ Divanza, Darin Peterson, or Cam Boozer.

As things stand, the odds of Brooklyn winning the lottery are 14%, and they hold a probability of 40.1% for a top-three pick, aligning with the seventh draft position.

In the game against Milwaukee, the Nets struggled defensively, allowing their opponents to shoot 55.6%. AJ Green led the scoring with 35 points, hitting 11 out of 16 attempts from three-point range, while Cormac Ryan contributed 28 points.

On the Nets’ side, Tyson Etienne scored 15 of his career-high 23 points during the first quarter. Malachi Smith had an impressive showing as well, recording a career-best 19 points, along with 10 assists and eight rebounds. The team, however, was missing several key players, including Michael Porter Jr., Egor Demin, and Nick Claxton, among others.

Notably, Smith made history as the first rookie in Nets’ history to score at least 15 points, record 10 assists, and have no turnovers in a single game.

Meanwhile, superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has been out for 13 games due to a hyperextended left knee, which has sparked speculation about his relationship with the Bucks and the team’s focus on tanking.

Despite the challenges, it seems the Nets are in a position to benefit from their current situation.
