Nets’ injury bug getting worse amid challenging road trip

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Nets were already set to be without Dorian Finney-Smith and Ben Simmons for Monday's game against Golden State. But now, both Dennis Schroder and Noah Clowney are questionable as well.

Schroder missed Sunday's win at Sacramento with right ankle soreness, and Clowney sprained his left ankle in the fourth quarter.

He had to be helped off the floor with six minutes remaining, and in the locker room after the game, Dayron Sharpe helped him to the training room.

Still, he was at least relieved to have avoided a catastrophic situation.

“I think things are going well. So I don't know the time or anything, but it could be worse and it's not bad. So I'm happy,” said Kings star Domantas Sabonis from deep defense. said Clowney, who scored 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Schroder hopes to at least get his ankle tested before Monday's game against the Warriors.

“I don't know yet. But it hurts. So we'll have to see,” Schroder said. “But I'd love to try it. I'll go. We'll see. [Monday] when shooting. And, yeah, make a decision from there. ”

Schroder said the injury occurred Friday in Philadelphia, but it's unclear what play caused it.

“I don't know what happened. After the game I was like okay, and the next day I was really sore. And then I felt better. So I thought I'd play. [Sunday]But yeah, I might take a break since it's continuous too. I'll probably go [Monday]and then take a day off to play against Phoenix. But I'll see how it feels. But there's nothing to worry about. ”

Meanwhile, Finney-Smith was out with a sprained left ankle. Brooklyn will also keep him around not only against the Warriors, but also against Simmons, who is not cleared to play on both ends of back-to-back games.

“Well, the ankle problem came back, but again… we're going to do what's best for his body and for him,” coach Jordi Fernandez said of Finney-Smith. “He’s the kind of guy you have to say, ‘Hey, you’re saying you’re out,’ because if you don’t, he’s going to go through with everything, and that’s who he is.

“He's another leader for us, he's tough, he's competitive, that's why we're where we are. And right now, he's going to miss these two games, but then we… We're going to re-evaluate his current situation. Again, we're not forcing anything. For me, it's not a big issue, but we want him to be able to play without pain and feeling good. I also want it.”

If Schroder is unable to play, that could leave more point guard duties to Shake Milton and Trendon Watford.

Brooklyn won with a 44-9 advantage in bench points.

Fernandes has won 13 of 20 Coaches Challenges, the most in the league.

Cam Johnson missed free throws in the third quarter, making it 32 in a row.

Bojan Bogdanovic and Dayron Sharpe were out with injuries, but Jalen Martin, Jackie Quy and Darik Whitehead were playing in the G League on Long Island. Martin suffered a knee injury, but the severity is not yet known.
