Nets, Jordi Fernandez keeping NBA draft strategy close to the vest

When the NBA holds its annual draft lottery in Chicago on May 12th, Nets Contingent is guaranteed to be its first lottery selection since 2010.

And manager Jordi Fernandez is on hand and will be ready for good fortune to change the franchise.

“I’m in Chicago,” Fernandez said. “I’m with the group. As you all know, there’s a lot going on there and we’re just ready to be lucky.”

If the internet had time to get lucky, this might be it.

There are few inflection points of this crucial importance.

The net has the sixth best odds in the lottery. This means there’s a 9% chance of winning the first place pick and Cooper Flag.

The net has a 37.2% chance of getting a pick somewhere in the top four, with 50.3% odds for a 7th (29.7) or 8th (20.6) landing.

“Obviously there’s a very important summer here,” said Fernandez, who was on PS 1, honoring the day of Sainte Jordi, distributing roses and books in the customary tradition of Catalan holidays. “And we’re clearly working, organising and excited with the draft and everything we’re going on.”

Nets has five picks in June. It’s the first round of four and the second pick. After passing the lottery, Brooklyn will choose the 19th, 26th, 27th and 36th.

They also have 20-year-old Dariq Whitehead and Noah Clowney.

The net asks for a question of whether to replace the pick. And how many prospects can they develop at the same time?

“Yeah, that’s a good question. Probably more questions. [general manager] Shawn [Marks] Fernandez interrupted me, and it was more than me.” And as we always try to do, coach, [will] Help them get better, show them their paths and habits, and connect, do everything we have preached to build the identity we want to build. ”

Whoever Brooklyn takes it eventually, Fernandez plays an active role.

“I’m not surprised by the draft. “His staff are given the authority to express their opinions and we really work together on this. We have a year to understand the Jordi system and how he wants to play, the talent he’s looking for, the attributes he’s looking for. What’s important to him?”

Fernandez was shy about the key attributes to add to this draft, including filming, length, and defense.

But in any case, his input carries weight.

“Yeah, obviously, this is my first time as a head coach going through this process, so it’s probably not something I’ve done before,” Fernandez said. “Shaun is always talking about collaboration, and that’s what I’m ready for, I’m ready to do everything I can to express my opinion.

“But at the end of the day, Sean and his group, what they’re doing is that they’re watching these kids live. [and] On tape. They’ve seen them for a while, so they’re experts. Me and my coach are there to ask for support and help. It’s an exciting summer. ”
