Network Linked to Soros Files Lawsuit Accusing Donald Trump of Violating Rights of Undocumented Immigrants Held at 'Alligator Alcatraz'

A left-leaning organization is connected financially to the Foundation of George and Alexander Soros’ Public Association and is suing the Trump administration. They argue that undocumented individuals detained at Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz” facilities are having their rights under the amendments compromised.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), representing a few non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and undocumented immigrants, is requesting that federal judges issue temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions against Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS). They claim that the due process rights of certain detained individuals are being violated.

“This facility signifies a troubling period in our nation’s narrative. Its presence reflects our country’s worst impulses, which, when fused with widespread animosity, highlights the risks of unchecked government authority,” I remarked.

It is a fundamental breach of decency, and the way detained individuals are treated here seems unlawful. The US Constitution does not permit the government to confine individuals without giving them the chance to consult legal counsel or appeal for their release. Basic rights shouldn’t be ignored for those in detention.

The lawsuit contends that the Trump administration is infringing upon the first and fifth amendments concerning about 700 undocumented immigrants currently confined at Alligator Alcatraz. This is allegedly due to the prohibition of legal visits, private communications, and document sharing.

ACLU representatives argue that the conditions at Wannial Catraz are harsh because of its proximity to alligators, poison, mosquitoes, and swamps.

In addition to the ACLU, Florida and the American ACLU for Immigrant Justice are overseeing the lawsuits on behalf of the organizations and undocumented individuals.

Americans for Immigrant Justice has previously received funding from Soros’ Open Society Foundation, including a $25,000 grant in 2017, while the ACLU has secured millions over time from the Soros Network.

In 2023, the ACLU Foundation in Florida received over $150,000 from the Open Society Foundations, and in 2022, the organization obtained a substantial $15 million from the same source.

Currently, a Soros-affiliated group is attempting to prevent immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) agents from detaining undocumented individuals in court. This month, another lawsuit was filed to halt the DHS from revoking temporary protected status for those from Honduras, Nicaragua, and Nepal.

The case is CMv. NOEM no. 1:25-CV-23182 in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
