“I feel blessed to be here,” Nev Shulman said after a horrific bicycle accident left him with two broken necks.
On Saturday, the “Catfish” host took to Instagram to share the incident, which happened the day after he went fishing with his family last Sunday.
“Monday was not that day. Monday was the day I learned what ‘pre-accident’ really means,” he said. she captioned the post.“And Monday just highlighted how lucky we were to have Sunday. As the saying goes, life can change in an instant.”
Schulman, 39, said the accident meant he “wasn’t able to cycle to pick up his son from school.”
“I was alone at the time of the crash – me and the truck – and I probably ended up on the sidewalk,” he added. “I was alone, I was unconscious, I regained consciousness, I was probably OK (I wasn’t), and I might still be able to do my long run on Thursday (I wasn’t).”
The former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant said she fractured the fifth and sixth nerves in her cervical spine but is not paralyzed.
“There was a moment of question mark over my hands, but the human body is incredible and so are people,” he said.
“I am blessed to be alive, to be able to stand and hug my family and to have the prospect of a full recovery. And I am truly beginning to understand the meaning of gratitude – for all the big things and little things before the accident and now for all that is moving forward.”
Shulman ended his post by saying that he had gone fishing with his family the day before the accident and that it was “really good.”
He gave no further details about the accident.
The MTV star also shared x-rays of his broken and “repaired” neck, as well as a video of himself in the hospital.
In one video, Shulman, wearing a neck corset and hospital gown, is seen slowly rising from her hospital bed with the help of two nurses.
Schulman’s wife, Laura Perlongo, and their three children, Cleo, 7, Beau, 5, and Sy, 2, were with him in hospital to support him as he recovered from surgery.
